Quick Links for UI Alumni
This page offers answers to questions and links to areas of the UI Foundation site that typically interest UI alumni.
Why support Iowa?
UI graduates "give back" to their alma mater for a number of reasons. Some feel a debt of gratitude for the high-quality education they receive; others give so that future generations of UI students have the opportunity to attend Iowa; still others take pride
in the UI's cutting-edge research and scholarship, and contribute to projects that will benefit all of society.
Finally, many graduates give to Iowa because they realize that the value of a UI degree is only as good as the institution is today -- not 10 or 20 or even 50 years ago. Private support enables the UI to maintain its ranking as one of this country's best public universities -- and only with the support of loyal alumni can we assure that our quality endures.
State support provides only 13.5 percent of the UI's $2.2 billion budget (FY2005 statistics). A crucial part of the remainder comes through donations from loyal alumni and friends. These funds provide support for facilities, equipment, student aid, the recruitment and retention of outstanding
professionals, and for centers and programs that would not be possible otherwise.
