Class of 2015
“When I get the chance to meet a donor, I tell them that everything I’m able to accomplish at the University of Iowa is because of you. Thank you.”
Austin Blythe was destined to be a Hawkeye. Growing up 25 minutes from Iowa City in Williamsburg, Iowa, he has always had a strong connection to the University of Iowa. Today, he’s now an offensive lineman for the Hawkeyes. During his time with the Iowa football team, he’s enjoyed his time giving back to the community—something he wouldn’t have been able to do without the support of generous donors.
Blythe is the recipient of the 2014 Bill and John Fenton Football Scholarship, as well as the 2014 Leonard A. and Marlene S. Hadley Center Football Scholarship. Because of this support, Austin gets to compete on Saturdays for the Hawkeyes while enjoying outstanding academic opportunities. He also credits his scholarships for his ability to contribute to the greater community as well. “Being able to read to elementary school children is a truly amazing experience and, because the University of Iowa’s football program puts a strong emphasis on giving back, I have been exposed to numerous opportunities to help out in the community,” said Blythe.
Blythe will enter his final semester at Iowa this fall and complete his entrepreneurial management certificate and a B.A. in communication studies. Like many other college athletes, Blythe hopes to join the National Football League after graduation, followed by a career in either sports marketing or alumni relations.
During his time on campus with the Iowa football team and as an athletics student intern at the University of Iowa Foundation, Blythe has been able to interact with many of the university’s donors. He also has had the opportunity to travel to I-Club events throughout Iowa and to personally thank the donors who continue to support students on campus.
